Clashmore Holiday Cottages are located in the spectacular parish of Assynt in Sutherland, Scotland, amidst some of the most spectacular mountain and coastal scenery in Europe. The wide variety of habitats and unspoilt landscape make Assynt is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Boat trips to spot porpoise, seal and minke whales are popular, as is visiting the internationally important sea bird colony on Handa Island. You can join a guided walk or look out for red deer, ptarmigan and golden eagles as you tackle one of the nearby Munros or Corbetts.
Clashmore is surrounded by wild brown trout lochs, including one below the cottages. A short stroll down to the loch will take you to the remains of a historic crannog or you can take our boat out to try your hand at fishing. Sea fishing is possible from the nearby coast and salmon fishing permits can be obtained for the rivers Inver and Kirkaig. There is also outstanding trout fishing in the area.
Whether you want to warm up after a day enjoying the great outdoors or simply relax indoors, you can cosy up with a blanket and a good book beside a wood-burning stove or watch a glorious sunset with a glass of wine. The lack of light pollution makes the area a fantastic location for stargazing and you may just be lucky and experience the dramatic Aurora Borealis.
The village of Lochinver has a Visitor Information Centre, the local leisure centre and Highland Stoneware. The village also has a number of bars and excellent restaurants, as well as a bank, post office, medical centre, grocery shops, a butchers, a hardware shop, and various gift shops. Additionally there is a small shop in Clachtoll, and shops and a bar in Drumbeg. All are within 10 miles of Clashmore Holiday Cottages.
